History of maharashtra

The rich history of Maharashtra takes you back to the old times when the region of Konkan came under the control of the Mauryas in the third and fourth centuries. Yadav was the last king in these states who lost his power in the early 12th century and after which Muslims ruled for a long period in Maharashtra. The Marathas came to rule the region in the 17th century. Shivaji was the first great ruler of Marathas and the British established their rule here after defeating the Marathas.
